As Associated Press reports the FDA has finally admitted that chickens who’re given the drug are tested positive for containing inorganic arsenic.
Years have passed since doubts about arsenic in chicken meat were made public and the FDA has been silent on the matter until now. They’ve finally gathered the courage to admit to the US public that the chicken meat sold in the States contains arsenic, which is a cancer causing poison and can be lethal if ingested in high doses. But what matters even more in this situation is the way the arsenic ends up in the chicken meat on the market: farmers add it to the chicken feed on purpose. According to reports from 2006 more than 70% of chicken farmers have been adding arsenic to the chicken feed to induce a faster gain rate but feed the chickens less. According to tests from the FDA half of the chickens they tested were proven to contain inorganic arsenic in their livers, and this is the most toxic form of arsenic. After making this discovery the FDA asked the company Pfizer to stop producing Roxarsone (the drug that contains arsenic) so that the farmers can’t add it to the chicken feed anymore. This drug is also responsible for the meat’s ‘healthy’ pink color.
Even though the products that contained arsenic are disappearing from the market, the FDA is still guilty for making people believe that the amounts of arsenic found in the chicken meat are not dangerous for human health, according to them the levels are so low that it’s unnoticeable. How can they say that arsenic, which according to them is a carcinogen, is not dangerous? It increases the risk of cancer significantly, even in trace amounts.
The entire chicken-producing industry wants to hide the fact that arsenic is lethal for humans. Studies from the University of South Carolina reveal that arsenic, mercury and lead can have a detrimental neurological effect on young children and developing fetuses. Arsenic is especially dangerous, as it’s found to be 4 times more toxic than Mercury.
The American Medical Association Journal published a study in which they revealed that people who eat high quantities of arsenic-spiked rice showed certain cellular changes which are connected to the development of cancer.
A number of other reports revealed that consuming arsenic can lead to a number of different types of cancer, including Bowen disease, skin cancer, kidney, bladder and liver cancer and many other health disorders.
What strikes us as even more controversial is that FDA says people will not suffer any unwanted consequences if they eat arsenic chicken meat but warn against drinking elderberry juice! Can you believe the audacity?
