Latest Studies Reveal That Rosemary Inhalation Can Boost Your Memory by 70%
Since ancient times natural healers have been using rosemary as a herbal remedy thanks to its medicinal properties. We know that it’s a highly beneficial herb with a number of medicinal uses, but according to recent studies this versatile herb can also have a positive effect on our memory, not just our health. The study authors suspect that this is due to the presence of eucalyptol in the herb’s aroma.
These studies were conducted on senior subjects and involved the use of rosemary in aromatherapy practices. They concluded that the herb promoted the subjects’ mental quality, probably as a result of the eucalyptol in rosemary which plays an essential part in the memory development in animal subjects.
Rosemary Can Protect Your Brain from Age-Related Damage
We all know that memory loss is an inevitable part of aging, we tend to forget more as we get older. However, the use of rosemary can prevent this to a certain point, as it was revealed that the herb can protect the brain, slow down the aging process in brain cells and minimize age-related damage. It also stimulates the blood flow to the brain which provides your brain with a higher supply of oxygen and other nutrients.
Rosemary is rich in carnosic acid which prevents free radicals damage and also prevent the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine which stimulates the communication between the cells in charge of memory and reasoning.
One study conducted on the subject involved 66 volunteers which were given essential oil and then monitored their improvements. The subjects were divided into two groups, one group went into a room scented with rosemary essential oils, while the other group went into a no-scented room. The result were incredible, as the group in the rosemary scented room was able to memorize 60-70% more things compared to the group in the no-scented room.
Rosemary essential oil has a positive effect on the memory process thanks to the presence of terpenes in its aroma, the primary component of all essential oils. This allows all the nutrients from the rosemary to reach a person’s bloodstream and reach the brain where they do their magic.
Using Rosemary to Improve Your Memory
The simplest way to enjoy all the benefits from rosemary is to drizzle a few drops of its essential oil on a small tissue and enjoy its pleasant aroma as it spreads through the air.
